Instructions
- In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Form into oval patties.
- Cook patties in a skillet over medium heat until browned and cooked through, about 4–5 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt butter. Sauté onions and mushrooms until tender, about 5–7 minutes.
- Sprinkle in flour and stir well. Gradually whisk in beef broth, soy sauce, and mustard. Simmer until thickened.
- Return the patties to the skillet and spoon gravy over. Cook for another 2–3 minutes.
- For chips, heat oil in a deep pan. Fry potato slices in batches until golden and crisp. Drain and season with salt.
- For sauce, mix sour cream, chives, lemon juice, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
- Serve Salisbury steak with mushroom gravy, homemade chips, and dipping sauce. Garnish with chopped chives.
Notes
- Use Yukon Gold potatoes as an alternative for chips for a buttery flavor.
- Make the gravy ahead of time to save prep time on busy nights.
- Double the patties and freeze extras for a quick future meal.
- For a lighter sauce, substitute sour cream with Greek yogurt.
