Description

Soft and fluffy burger buns designed for oversized burgers and hearty sandwiches. These golden, homemade rolls have a tender crumb and crisp crust, perfect for backyard BBQs or gourmet burger creations.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 egg (plus 1 for egg wash)
  • Optional: sesame seeds or poppy seeds for topping

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add yeast mixture, warm milk, softened butter, and 1 egg. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down dough and divide into 6–8 equal pieces. Shape each into a round bun and place on a parchment-lined baking tray.
  6. Cover loosely and let rise again for 30–40 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds if using.
  8. Bake for 15–18 minutes until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • Use warm milk and water (not hot) to activate yeast effectively without killing it.
  • Let buns cool completely before slicing for best texture.
  • Perfect for large burgers or stacked sandwiches.
