Description

These smoky, sweet, and savory baked beans are loaded with thick-cut bacon, juicy sausage, and a rich blend of molasses, maple syrup, and mustard—perfect as a hearty side or stand-alone comfort meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3 (28-ounce) cans original baked beans, drained slightly
  • 10 oz thick-cut bacon, chopped
  • 1 (12-ounce) beef sausage link, sliced and browned
  • 1 yellow onion, finely diced
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 2 tablespoons spicy brown mustard
  • 1 tablespoon unfiltered apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove and set aside. Discard some of the grease, leaving about 1 tablespoon in the skillet.
  3. Add diced onion to the skillet and cook until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add sliced sausage and cook until browned on both sides. Remove from heat.
  5. In a large oven-safe pot or Dutch oven, combine baked beans, cooked onion, sausage, and bacon.
  6. Stir in ketchup, maple syrup, molasses, mustard, and apple cider vinegar until well combined.
  7. Cover and bake for 45 minutes. Uncover for the last 15 minutes for a thicker, caramelized top.
  8. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use turkey sausage or plant-based sausage for a lighter or vegetarian version.
  • Adjust sweetness by increasing or reducing maple syrup or molasses.
  • These beans can be made ahead and reheated—flavors deepen over time.
