Scale
- 3 (28-ounce) cans original baked beans, drained slightly
- 10 oz thick-cut bacon, chopped
- 1 (12-ounce) beef sausage link, sliced and browned
- 1 yellow onion, finely diced
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons molasses
- 2 tablespoons spicy brown mustard
- 1 tablespoon unfiltered apple cider vinegar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, cook chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove and set aside. Discard some of the grease, leaving about 1 tablespoon in the skillet.
- Add diced onion to the skillet and cook until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add sliced sausage and cook until browned on both sides. Remove from heat.
- In a large oven-safe pot or Dutch oven, combine baked beans, cooked onion, sausage, and bacon.
- Stir in ketchup, maple syrup, molasses, mustard, and apple cider vinegar until well combined.
- Cover and bake for 45 minutes. Uncover for the last 15 minutes for a thicker, caramelized top.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Use turkey sausage or plant-based sausage for a lighter or vegetarian version.
- Adjust sweetness by increasing or reducing maple syrup or molasses.
- These beans can be made ahead and reheated—flavors deepen over time.
