Instructions

  1. Prepare the vanilla cake according to the instructions on the box or your homemade vanilla cake recipe. Allow it to cool completely before slicing.
  2. Once the cake has cooled, slice it into small, square pieces (about 1-inch in size).
  3. In a medium bowl, beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  4. Add milk, one tablespoon at a time, until the buttercream reaches a thick but spreadable consistency.
  5. Divide the buttercream into four portions. Add a few drops of food coloring to each portion (pink, yellow, green, purple) and mix well.
  6. Using a piping bag with a small star tip, pipe small swirls of buttercream on top of each petit four.
