French Onion Soup Burgers

Ingredients:

1 1/2 pounds ground beef

1 packet (about 4 to 6 tablespoons) Lipton Onion Soup Mix

2 1/2 tablespoons butter

2 large onions, thinly sliced

A pinch of thyme

3/4 cup water (as needed)

1 tablespoon brandy or Sherry (optional, but recommended)

4 to 8 ounces Swiss or Provolone cheese

4 buns

A little butter or oil for brushing the buns

Directions:

In a bowl, mix the ground beef with the onion soup mix and let it rest while you caramelize the onions.

Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat, add onions, thyme, and 1/4 cup water. Cover and simmer for 3-4 minutes until

onions are tender and the water has nearly evaporated. Remove the lid and continue to cook, adding water as necessary to

prevent sticking. Once onions are caramelized and browned, stir in brandy or sherry and remove from heat.

Form burgers with a small dent on the top for even cooking. Cook in a skillet or grill over medium-high heat, about 3

minutes per side. Add caramelized onions and cheese on top, reduce heat, and cook until the cheese is melted and burgers

reach desired doneness.

Brush buns with butter or oil and toast until golden.
